Time Marches on

... and here we are. March 1st and only 2 days to go. A large selection of cold weather clothes assembling on spare bed, and debating whether I can fit two sailing bags together in the back compartment. I'm trying at the same time not to think about the state I will leave the house in, but will try to fit in a final trip to the recycling centre before I go.

And my Stay4Night 'camp' behind what I now know is a disused boathouse, was indeed very silent and comfortable. And when I woke finally at 0800 it was still earlier than the first ferry return from the island, so there wasn't even a single car on the road. And, as previously noted on the Stay4Night app, the toilet facilities do indeed stay open, with lights on, all night, with hot water in the taps, so I walked 100 yards and enjoyed my wash and brush up, and returned to the van and had coffee and porridge at the picnic table in the morning sun. My distillery tour was scheduled for 11am, and I drove up early and sat in the sun, gazing across to the Cuillins, a sight that has not yet tired for me. The tour guide was Steve, a longtime Raasay resident with an inexhaustible knowledge of the island as well as the distillery. Friday 28th April, W9D1

 Well, a very strange entry for me to write of this as Day1 of a new week (9),  nominally the last day of my long meanderings, apart from the planned reunion with my Herts family tomorrow, which in my mind amounts to a homecoming in all but the postcode.  Today has been, as anticipated, a rather tedious journey of over four hours of A-roads and motorway driving, with a couple of Moto stops to answer nature's call a d restore my caffeine levels . I had only a half hour of more interesting country back roads, thanks to Google offering  me an alternative route because of holdups on the A66, in Lincolnshire.  My BritStop for tonight is the Castle Bar and Grill on the outskirts of Boston, a family run establishment. My host - Jimmy - directed me to the back of the pub, beyond the normal car park, and came out and provided me with a power line led out from the garage, for which fortunately I did have the requisite adapter, never used before until now! Easter Monday, 10th March, W6D4

 ' Solid stone is just sand and water... Sand and water and a million years gone by.' I make no apology for quoting Beth Neilsen Chapman again, because I found it so very apposite, as I made the transition yesterday from the peat-carpeted hills of Lewis across the geological divide into Harris. It was really like being transported into a different age, or maybe a different planet, with a towering landscape of forbidding mountains crowding in on the narrow roads following the clefts in the ground. It's hard for my little brain to understand how the millennia sculpted this country, producing such variety in so small a stretch of land. Enough of that.  Anyway, as planned I spent last night by the bay of Losgaintair, but didn't wake to a view of the sandy Bay in glorious sunshine, because the rain persisted through the night.
