Easter Sunday 9th April W6D3
So WTF am I? Well may you wonder (as do I) All that I know is that I have left Lewis, for Harris, where I failed (don't ask) to get a spot in a (rather bucolic) so-called camping site after possibly the hairiest cliffside route yet, mostly because of the howling wind rocking the van on the narrow road. So I searched the valuable Park4night app, and saw this possible roadside stop, alongside an enormous expanse of sandy beach, which I hope will be glorious tomorrow in the sunshine that's conspicuously absent in today's rain. Not a facility within 5 miles, so settled here for my first true 'wild camp'. Just me and the sheep.
The day started differently, 'semi-wild', waking in the car park of the Cross Inn in the Nis region of north Lewis. Breakfast was available from 9am including Ness black pudding. I spent time in the van researching my route for the day, and failing to find a suitable camp for the night, so resigned to winging it to an extent.
Later I had a fine lunch of roast beef with all the trimmings. Alice (writing group Lucy)'s sister was doing her day on duty at the Inn while Duncan took over baby care at their nearby home. A wave from Alice for her sister.
Time to head south across the fault line running between two sea lochs to enter Harris. I bypassed Tarbert (yes, another one, population 3000) the main population centre for now, though I'll be back later in the week at least for my planned ferry to Skye. And tomorrow I'll have another go at finding a site where I can get a rather overdue shower.
