Scourie Campsite, just about G&T time. Great lochside site, good facilities and a local shop close by, but WiFi only works close to reception, not at my chosen spot by the water. Never mind.

This morning I paid my respects to the very tasteful John Lennon memorial back down the road from the Sango Sands site.

Then off-piste again, as is my wont, to find the best view of Ben Arkle, a gneiss anomaly (whatever that is. I realise more and more as I go along that as I'm not a geologist, an archaeologist, an historian, an ornithologist nor a botanist, I'm only here to enjoy the scenery, and learn a few facts I won't remember. Such is life <sigh>). Anyway, the view of  Ben Arkle, which doesn't even quite make it as a Munro, across Loch Stack was in fact very impressive.

My next venture off the beaten track was  side loop from my route down to Tarbet (cautionary note here, there must be a dozen Tarbets scattered around the West of Scotland, and this was one of the less well known ones.) So why? Because it's there in the guide book, and looked an easy detour. It wasn't. It proved to be one of the scariest roads I've driven, tarmac just wide enough for the van, with twists like a corkscrew and blind summits every few hundred yards. At the bottom of the 1:4 descents was the (closed of course) ferry hut for day trips to Handa, which I'd love to do one day, and an (equally closed) cafe. I walked to the end of the jetty in the hope of a dolphin or at least a seal to make the journey worthwhile, but all I got was a single guillemot. Better than nothing, I guess. But by the time I climbed the tortuous road back to my main route, my knuckles had gone from white to blue. Served me right.

Anyway, back to safety, refuelled and provisioned at the shop/garage, and a warm welcome at the Scourie Campsite, with a residue of warm afternoon sun by the lochside. And, so back to G&T with my book by the water's edge. Sadly, too clouded over for the promised glorious sunset. As I sit and write at 1830, it's just  warm enough to sty outside, but probably not for long. Time to cook supper. ❤️
